The Department of Mathematical Sciences has a long tradition in graduate study, having initiated the Doctor of Philosophy degree in the early 1900s. With 43 full-time faculty and approximately 70 full-time students, the departments low student/faculty ratio provides an excellent environment for study and research direction. The department has strong research groups in the areas of algebra, complex analysis, differential equations, dynamical systems, functional analysis, numerical analysis, probability, topology and statistics.
